A RECORD-BREAKING number of students at Saffron Walden County High School achieved five or more GCSE passes.
The wait was finally over for the academic youngsters when they picked up their results from the school this morning (Thursday).
Overall the students have maintained the very high standard set in recent times and 99 per cent of the year group achieved five or more GCSE passes - a record for the school.
The proportion of students gaining five or more A* to C grade passes was 78 per cent.

Headteacher John Hartley was delighted with the results. He said: "An especially pleasing feature of our results is that a third of the entire year group gained higher grade passes in the three separate sciences (physics, chemistry and biology).
"I would like to congratulate the students for all their hard work and the teaching staff for their ongoing commitment to the highest standards."

Amongst the results were some outstanding individual performances, with 29 students gaining at least eight grade As or A*s.
Prominent amongst these performances was Samuel Diana, who gained ten A*s and one A.
Four students, Charlotte Penn, Eliza Davison, Tabatha Bergin and Jonathan Lao, received seven A* grades, with the rest being As.
