Scaffolding went up and work began at Saffron Walden Library this week with the building set to receive a “facelift”.
The renovation is expected to be completed early next year but the library will remain open to the public throughout the period of works.
Councillor Anne Brown, cabinet member at Essex County Council, said: ““I am pleased that work to improve Saffron Walden Library began this week.
“The structural repairs and renovations will restore the building to its former glory. This will include a facelift to the clock, metalwork and external decorations.
“We expect work to finish early next year but even so, the library will remain open to serve the local community.
“I look forward to seeing the work completed on this truly beautiful building.”
