A run in memory of a Saffron Walden teacher who died of Motor Neurone disease has raised more than £3,000 for fellow sufferers.
The Great Westgarth Run took place earlier in the summer for Friends’ Junior School teacher Sue Westgarth, who died in 2010 at the age of just 51.
Sue’s sister Chris, along with Friends’ School parents and personal trainer Clare Thompson who organised the run, handed over a cheque last week for £2,944.28 to the Cambridgeshire branch of MNDA. A further £180 was received from online donations, taking the total to £3,124.28.
“This is a wonderful sum which will go a long way towards helping so many people living with this devastating disease in the area,” said Pamela Wilkie, chair of the Cambridgeshire branch.
“I am sure the Westgarth family will be so moved that Sue stimulated so much love and respect within her friendship network that has enabled you all to continue working in her name for others with MND. It is a real tribute to Sue and you all.”
