RUNNERS are being invited to apply to Sawston's biggest charity event: the annual fun run and walk.

The major event is set to take place on April 27, with close to 1000 participants expected to don their running shoes and complete the 4.8-mile route.

With entry costing just £4 for children and £7 for adults aged 17 and over in advance, you can donate to charity while getting exercise, socialising and having fun at the same time.

The Rotary Club of Sawston District organises the event each year, and has raised more than a quarter of a million pounds since it began 22 years ago.

Club president David Morris said: "We enjoy organising the event because it's clear the community really welcomes this annual opportunity to come together to have fun and to raise money for local causes. It also allows us to fulfil our part in making it happen and helping many different local groups and charities."

Support for the event has come from a wide range of local businesses and groups: Cambridge Building Society is the main sponsors, but Excell Ltd, Haart Estate Agents, Spicers Ltd, Vindis Sawston, Webb & Partners Solicitors, Sawston Parish Council and Sawston Village College have all helped make it possible.

Help has also come in the form of donations for a prize raffle on the day, from NST Travel, the Marshall Group and Waitrose.

This year's four main beneficiaries will be the Cambridge Cancer Help Centre Unit, Addenbrooke's Prostate Cancer Unit, Magpas and the Teenage Cancer Trust. However, the 1st Sawston Scouts, Sawston Youth Drama, Sawston Youth Group, South Cambs Riding for the Disabled and Pippins Pre-School are also standing to benefit from the event.

To enter the run and hep contribute towards a fund-raising target of £15,000, pick up an entry form from a branch of Cambridge Building Society, the reception office at Sawston Village College, the OWL Café in Sawston or by visiting www.sawstonfunrun.co.uk.
