THE Essex Food and Drink Awards 2012 were bought a little closer to home this year by a local producer.

Saffron Ice Cream Company was given the award of finalist at a black tie evening held in Stock, near Billericay.

The prestigious awards, which have been running for five years, are open to all Essex-based food and drink companies and promise to recognise the very best the county has to offer. Producers are entered by the voting public with those achieving the highest number of votes progressing as finalists. A selection of products and information are then submitted to be evaluated against a strict criteria set by the judging board.

Dominic Parry of The Saffron Ice Cream Company said: “I am delighted the products we hand make have been recognised as some of the very best in the whole of Essex. Being a finalist is an amazing feeling.”

The Saffron Ice Cream Company, founded in 2009, operates from a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit in Henham, producing naturally-flavoured ice cream from real ingredients. Many of the ingredients are sourced from other small producers in the area. For information, visit saffronicecream.co.uk
