BE SURE to wise up on chlamydia - get yourself tested.

That's the call to all sexually active young people on the advice of chlamydia screening co-ordinator Louise Palmer of NHS West Essex.

Free and easy to do, it's a DIY self test so no examination is needed and asking for your test kit by text message couldn't be simpler.

"Just text the word KIT to 60155 with your name, age, address and sex to get your free chlamydia testing kit," says Louise.

Those aged between 15 and 24 years are being urged to find out for themselves if they are the one in 10 with chlamydia. One of the fastest growing sexually-transmitted infections affecting this age group, there are often no signs or symptoms indicating chlamydia so screening is vital to detect it. Left untreated, it can cause further infections and infertility in males and females.

Louise said: "Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean you don't have it. So get yourself tested now and make sure you are not the one in ten. All 15 to 24-year-olds are advised to test annually or each time they have a new partner."

Sexually active 15 to 24-year-olds are being invited to drop in chlamydia sessions at Saffron Walden Community Hospital on Radwinter Road, Saffron Walden on Wednesday March 3, 3pm to 7pm.
