SAFFRON Walden Conservative Club’s base has been sold for �650,000.
The Georgian building, in Museum Street, has been bought by an anonymous businessmen who, the Reporter understands, is planning to turn the property into a five-bedroom house with separate two-bedroom annexe.
The sale - �250,000 below the asking price - brings an end to over 120 years of history.
The Conservative Club decided to move out of the grade-II listed building last year amid concerns over dwindling membership and expensive running and refurbishment costs.
The club is currently seeking a smaller premises more suitable for the 21st century.
