Earlier this week pupils celebrated raising thousands of pounds for a number of charities either close to home or close to their hearts.

Students from Saffron Walden County High School raised the impressive sum of £11,200 over their annual Charities Week in December.

The events over the last three days of term included a ‘You’re Hired’ panel, talent shows, busking events and a raffle, with prizes donated by bands such as Arctic Monkeys and McBusted.

Individual feats included that by 13-year-old Year Eight County High student Eve-Liis Magiroos, who raised hundreds of pounds for The Little Princess Trust by cutting off her long hair.

The charities were all chosen by students, and included Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, the Ethan Linwood Memorial Fund, Alzheimer’s Society, ACCCURO, Chidobe Secondary School, Addenbrooke’s Breast Cancer Appeal, The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and St John’s Ambulance.
