A SAFFRON Walden dance school put on its first ever show on Saturday - and it proved to be a big success.

The Kate Plummer School of Dance event was held at Dame Bradbury School, Saffron Walden in front of an enthusiastic audience of around 300 people.

Over 70 performers, ranging in ages from three upwards, took part to produce a slick, stylish and professional performance.

The programme included performances in ballet, tap, modern and street jazz.

There was also dancing teddy bears, funny little clowns, tapping cowgirls, the pas de quatre from Swan Lake, a pointe solo from 15-year-old Elizabeth Cowell from ballet Coppelia, a lively Rock n Roll to Footloose, a fun tap to A Crazy Little Thing Called Love, clockwork dolls and a very energetic finale to Fame.

Kate Plummer said: "I am so pleased that the show went so well. All the performers worked so hard in the run up to it and I am very proud of all of them.

"I would like to thank all the parents who helped - I couldn't have done it without you."

A raffle was held, which included a top prize of Beyonce concert tickets for November at the O2 Arena, helping to raise 335 for local disability charity Accuro.
