‘WOMEN in leadership’ was the perfect topic for a girlguide leader at a roundtable event last week.
Geri Cowell, from Elmdon, joined chief Guide Gill Slocombe and Emma Barnett, Women’s editor of The Telegraph, on the panel of the first ‘Girlguiding Explores... Women and Leadership’ event held at Girlguiding’s London headquarters.
The 25-year-old was chosen to attend as a member of the Girlguiding Advocate! panel – a group of young women aged between 14 and 25 from all over the UK appointed to give girls a voice on the issues they care about.
Geri, who is district commissioner for Saffron Walden, said: “I really wanted to give my perspective about women in leadership as it’s a subject I am really passionate about. Guiding exemplifies this so it was a perfect subject for a roundtable.”
Discussions covered everything from women in high-flying positions, role models and school careers services to access to childcare. More events are scheduled for 2013.
