A new gardening section at a Saffron Walden supermarket was offically opened by the town’s horticultural society this week ... and it’s already proving to be a blooming success.
Waitrose, in Hill Street, has officially opened the new section, based outside the front of the store, where customers can buy plants, shrubs and bulbs.
Mel Maycock, local marketer for the branch, said: “We opened it three weeks ago and we invited members from the Saffron Walden Horticultural Society to come and open it officially. It has been going really and customers seem to really like it.”
Kate Chambers, secretary of the society, said: “It is very good and should be really useful for customers.”
• Saffron Walden Horticultural Society’s ‘Spring, Daffodil and Floral Show’ will take place on April 12 at the Golden Acre Community Centre, Ross Close. It will be open to the public from 2-4pm with the mayor presenting the prizes at 3.30pm. Entry is free. There will be a raffle and plant stall. Refreshments available.
