IT was billed as the “best party in town” - and it lived up to expectations.

The New Year’s Eve Party at Saffron Walden Town Hall was organised for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal to mark in the new decade.

Around 130 attended and helped raise an incredible £1000 for Saffron Walden mayor Bob Eastham’s two charities.

The event also brought back into use the town hall on a New Year’s Eve as revellers danced the night away to popular local band, The Wrinklies, and tucked into a tasty hot buffet.

Cllr Eastham said: “It was a good night, with a cosy atmosphere and a range of people in attendance, aged 18 to 80.”

The proceeds from the evening will now go towards Cllr Eastham’s two charities - The Injured Soldiers Fund at Carver Barracks in Wimbish, and local theatre company Shake-A-Leg which sees amateurs putting on Shakespeare productions of professional quality.

“I would like to thank the mayoress for preparing the food and for the lady councillors and friends who helped out in the kitchen on the night. Without them our profit would not have been what it was.” added Cllr Eastham.
