THE organisers of the first Saffron Walden Maze Festival will need up to 1,500 empty jam jars to light up the maze on the Common with tealights for the Grand Finale on Sunday evening, August 28.

The jars should be suitable for tealights (tall, narrow necked jars won’t work) and will be recycled after use.

The jars (without lids) should be delivered to a reception area next to the Common car park in boxes or bags between 9am and 2pm on Sunday August 28. If this not possible, please contact Sue Ullstein in advance on 01799 500544 to make alternative delivery arrangements.

The Grand Finale will be called Mazes! Myths! Magic! and will include three temporary mazes, a straw bale maze for children, a human maze for an aerial photograph, a bouncy castle and lots of other free sideshows, a children’s fancy dress competition to be judged by the mayor and mayoress, face painting, refreshments, music by the Walden Buskers, entertainment by Hyperfusion, the lighting of the maze and, finally, singing around the maze.

The Maze Festival runs from August 20-28 - for more information see saffronwaldenmazefestival.co.uk or call in at the Tourist Information Centre.
