FROM maze-making to storyteller, there’s a packed programme at this year’s Saffron Walden Maze Festival.
Back by popular demand, the festival will be taking place at venues around Saffron Walden from August 16-19. And there is something for everyone.
Here’s a few highlights:
Magnetic Mini-beasts Workishop: Children are welcome to drop into the Saffron Walden Museum and create a maze of their own - providing they bring an adult and a tea tray.
This will be from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.
Storytelling for Adults: Storytellers from Cambridge will be sharing their tales with wine and nibbles at the library beginning at 7.30pm.
Walk the Chartres Labyrinth: Kay Barrett, a trained labyrinth facilitator, introduces labyrinth walking using a beautiful, hand-painted canvas copy laid out on the floor. Talks and walks will be on the hour every hour from 10am to 4pm.
Think, Ink, Print: Come and join Bryony Pritchard, the festival’s artist-in-residence, making a maze from colourful materials and lots of ink. At the Common from noon till 4pm.
Walking races on the Turf Labyrinth: Timed race for all ages according to the rules of the early 19th century, organised by Walden Tri. These will take place from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at the Turf Labyrinth, the Common.
Party at the Turf Labyrinth: From 4.30pm there will be picnics and music but as the evening goes on there will be lots of entertainment including fire jugglers at the Common.
Clay-confusion, Maze-making workshop: For children over five, by Freshwell Youth Arts and Crafts, using clay and other materials, youngsters need to bring an adult and it costs £5.
Cinema: Screening of The Shining at the Saffron Screen, from 8pm. Tickets cost £6.80 for an adult and £6 for an adult concession from SW Tourist Information Centre or saffronscreen.com
