The Richard Austen Butler Debating Society will host its first event of 2017 with Sir Alan Haselhurst on March 30.

Sir Alan will give insight into the art of public speaking, which has been learned through his parliamentary career in Westminster.

The event takes place in the Court Room, at Saffron Walden Town Hall, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, and guests will have the opportunity to ask questions to further develop their debating styles.

All attendees are also invited to a follow-up informal gathering for drinks at the Old English Gentleman, in Gold Street, Saffron Walden.

The RAB Debating Society says it fully intends for members to be able to take part in debates and many more functions yet to come, and believes the lecture will prove to be an invaluable formative experience.

Those wishing to join the society can visit or search RAB Debating Society on Facebook for more information.
