An opticians in Saffron Walden is asking customers to think of those less fortunate than themselves and donate their unwanted children’s Christmas presents.

Specsavers, at 11 Hill Street, will be acting as a collection hub for unwanted children’s gifts such as toys, board games and books, as part of a Christmas present amnesty appeal throughout January and February.

The donations will then to be taken to East Anglian Children’s Hospice, which provides care and support to life-threatened children, young people and their families.

Tania Jenkinson, store director, said: “Every year many of us receive presents that we don’t really want and consign them to a life in a cupboard or drawer.

“We thought that this year it would be great to collect up any unwanted gifts in the area and donate them to our regional charity. We look forward to taking in and re-homing all the unwanted presents.”

Specsavers stores in and around the region have come together to partner with the East Anglian Children’s Hospice and will be fund-raising throughout 2014. The stores aim to raise £25,000 for the charity.

To donate your unwanted Christmas presents, simply take them to the Specsavers store in Saffron Walden where a member of staff will be on hand to accept them.
