A SAFFRON Walden man died after contracting a blood infection following an essential operation, an inquest heard.
David Thake, 62, of Little Walden Road, was admitted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with severe abdominal pain and jaundice, caused by multiple cysts on his liver and kidneys, and underwent an operation on April 6.
An inquest in Huntingdon yesterday (Wednesday) heard that Mr Thake had been fitted with a biliary drain and moved to a recovery ward, but his condition deteriorated rapidly and he developed sepsis. He died at 8.40pm.
A post-mortem report confirmed that the drain had been satisfactorily positioned, but that the operation was high-risk.
Cambridgeshire deputy coroner Dr Sam Bass ruled that Mr Thake had died as result of recognised complication from a necessary operation.
