Police are appealing for information after a 67-year-old woman became the victim of a distraction theft in Saffron Walden three weeks ago.

The victim noticed she was being watched by a woman as she entered her pin number to pay for her shopping at Waitrose supermarket in Hill Street at around 5pm on Monday, February 8.

As she returned to her address near Peaslands Road and went to get out of her car, she was approached by the same woman who presented a map and asked for directions to Manchester.

While she was distracted, a man removed her handbag from the car and the victim’s bank card was later used to withdraw £500 in cash.

Both suspects were described as having tanned complexions. The woman had dark hair and wore a long cream puffa-style jacket with a hood.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Gemma Edwards at Saffron Walden police station on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
