Pupils at St Mary’s Primary School in Saffron Walden got their New year off to a positive start by taking part in a ‘Healthy Week’.

The aim was to educate teachers, parents and pupils about healthy living and the Castle Street school had a number of visitors and guests to promote the special week.

Each morning was introduced by a selection of speakers, from health experts and school sport co-ordinators, as well as a dentist and a well-being counsellor.

The children learnt about the impact of sugar in their food and drinks and made healthy options like smoothies, fruit kebabs and soup.

Pupils also took part in athletic sessions, circuit training, skipping and aerobics to understand the importance of exercise.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the week, including Tesco for leading ‘farm to fork’ sessions and providing the wonderful food.”
