ANCIENT Egypt was brought vividly to life in the classroom as children from Friends' Junior School in Saffron Walden journeyed back in time by 3000 years.

Students in year two spent a whole day in Egyptian costume and, through the organised activities and tasks, experienced a genuine slice of Egyptian life.

The day was spent enjoying various activities including baking bread following an authentic Egyptian recipe, making jewellery, writing messages in hieroglyphics, researching Egyptian gods and goddesses and enjoying some Egyptian dancing.

They also made a very impressive version of the golden mask of Tutankhamun in 3D.

Head of infants, Sally Manser, said: "The experience gave the children a real taste of ancient Egypt and was the perfect way to wrap up our History topic - it was an exciting and entertaining way to find out about the past.
