THUNDEROUS drumming combined with intense quiet concentration marked Japan Day at Dame Bradbury's School in Saffron Walden.
The regular timetable was set aside and the children were involved in a selection of exciting and varied workshops including cooking, origami, art, karate and calligraphy.
All of the children took part in workshops run by the Taiko Meantime drummers - a thrilling, vibrant experience which required great concentration, co-ordination and control.
"Japan Day has offered all of the children and staff a valuable insight into another country," said headteacher Jane Crouch.
"We want the children to appreciate the huge variety of life in the world around us, and this day has truly achieved that in a fun and inspiring way - it's been a great success.
"I hope that now they have had a taste of Japan, they can find out more about it for themselves, maybe visit the library or do some research. Perhaps one day they will have the chance to go to Japan to see for themselves everything they have learned about today.
