THE BI-ANNUAL Societies Showcase has been hailed a great success by all parties involved.

Organised by Saffron Walden Initiative and held at the Town Hall on Saturday, some 33 clubs and societies took the opportunity to showcase their organisations to a steady stream of visitors.

One group alone, Friends of Bridge End Gardens, recruited 11 new members and 21 possible new gardening volunteers.

Clubs and societies attending the event were positive about the event and are keen to attend any future showcase.

Jean Scofield, of the Saffron Walden Footpath Association, said: "There was a positive response from the public and good attendance throughout the day.

"I thought it was a very worthwhile event - so many people are unaware of what Saffron Walden has to offer."

A proposal by Saffron Walden Initiative for a Maze Festival in 2011 was also launched during the showcase.

Saffron Walden Initiative's Ginny Eley said: "The idea was well received by everyone who stopped by the stall, with many creative ideas for the organising group to build on."

Anyone who would like to know more about the proposed Festival should contact Ms Eley on 01799 523477 or Barbara Wilcox on 01799 502962.
