NEARLY 200 games of chess were played out in one afternoon at the annual Essex Schools’ Chess Tournament.
Eleven teams comprising a total of 66 pupils from seven schools in the region took part. The participating schools were Dame Bradbury’s, Friends’ Junior, Great Easton Primary, RA Butler Junior, Rodings Primary, Henham & Ugley Primary and Rickling and Farnham Federation of Primary Schools.
Hosts Dame Bradbury’s School emerged as the overall winner. The school also scooped three of the individual awards.
Melanie Lord, marketing project manager for Price Bailey Chartered Accountants – sponsors of the tournament – said: “This is our 27th year of sponsoring this event and our congratulations go to the winners. It is amazing to think that 198 games of chess were played in one afternoon.
“This is a great event to be involved with and we sincerely thank the organisers and the schools for their continued support with running a superb competition ... long may it continue.”
