A group of scouts gave up their comfortable beds for a night to support victims of the Nepal earthquake.

The Saffron Walden 5th Scouts traded in their mattress and duvet for sleeping bags and cardboard boxes in Jubilee Gardens on Friday (June 12), and raised £976 for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

It was inspired by a group leader, who accidentally locked himself out of his house and resorted to sleeping outside in cardboard boxes.

Chay Flynn, patrol leader, said: “Sleeping rough for one night in cardboard boxes was hard enough but knowing that our homes were still standing and we could easily go back to warm beds made it slightly easier. It is hard to imagine that for 1.7million people this is simply not the case.”

The group thanked Terry Frostick, at Saffron Walden Town Council and Simon of the Day Centre.
