Saffron Walden Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has come to the rescue of residents who want to feed the ducks at Freshwell Pond following the closure of the town’s pet shop.

Gould’s, in Market Row, shut its doors in December last year, and the TIC says it was inundated with people wanting to buy food for the town’s web-footed friends.

Staff at the TIC have been able to source a duck food supplier and are now selling bags at the centre in Market Street.

Rachel Thomas, duty manager at the TIC, said: “We were very grateful that our attention was drawn to the fact that there is an active desire among local people to carry on this healthy tradition, and that people care enough to want the ducks to be fed healthily, and not with bread.

“We have been able to source a supplier, and are delighted to report that we now have 750g bags on sale for £1.50.”
