Work has begun to remove part of the scaffolding from Saffron Walden Town Hall in a process which will take around six weeks.

Saffron Walden Town Council says scaffolding will need to be selectively removed over a period of weeks before the project can be fully completed.

Some of the completed work will be revealed to residents during the six-week period, with the temporary roof coming down before the improvements are finished.

Internal work to replace the central heating and hot water system has also been carried out, with redecoration work commencing shortly.

The £500,000 refurbishment project began in May last year and is expected to be completed at the end of March.

Lisa Courtney, town clerk, said: “The town council is delighted that all works are now on the home-stretch, and I am sure that everyone looks forward to having the hall restored to its original beauty and splendour.”
