THE May Queen held court at Katherine Semar Infant School in Saffron Walden on Friday.

After being crowned by the Green Man the May Queen was attended by children carrying flowers. As well as the crowning ceremony, children took part in May pole dancing, singing and a procession.

Headteacher Jane Gilmour said: "It was a wonderful May Day celebration enjoyed by all the children and lots of parents. The weather was wonderful and really added to the occasion.

"In the morning we went to the Saffron Walden almshouses to take part in the Gibson Charity's 125th anniversary and the children performed a May pole dance which was very well received.

"Back at the school the early year children entertained the May Queen by performing a Cumberland Circle, the year ones danced a Pater Cake Polka and the year twos did May pole dances.

"Because Easter was quite late this year, the children only had two weeks to practice and I thought they all did very well.
