OUTDOOR learning has been taken to another level by a Saffron Walden school this week after they opened their very own ‘forest’.
Friends’ Junior School in Saffron Walden opened their very own Forest School situated within Friends’ School grounds this term.
The Forest School philosophy is to encourage and inspire children through positive outdoor experiences, to encourage them to play in natural spaces on a regular basis and to develop independence, self-esteem and team work.
The Nursery and Reception classes have been learning such skills while having great fun in their own forest – making forest people in clay, creating shelters and studying mini-beasts whilst discovering the changing nature of this new outdoor classroom.
Head of Friends’ Junior School and Nursery Andrew Holmes said: “We are very fortunate to have the space and grounds to have our very own Forest School and it has proved popular with both our children and parents.”
