CHILDREN at Dame Bradbury’s School in Saffron Walden proved their green credentials by picking up two awards.
Branch manager of Waitrose, Malcolm Domb, presented the school with a Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) certificate and a coveted Green Flag – the top award in the Government’s Eco-Schools programme.
Waitrose is the official national supporter of the RHS Campaign for school gardening. There are five levels to achieve and the school has reached level three.
“These awards reflect our significant commitment to gardening and the environment, and we are especially thrilled to have achieved our Green Flag in only two years,” said assistant head Lucy Brown, who leads the school’s sustainability programme.
“Gardening is a timetabled activity, with a dedicated teacher, and we have an after-school Green Club. The School has two gardens, both funded by the PTA. We have an environmental garden and dipping pond, and a teaching garden, where children from nursery upwards learn about growing plants and caring for the world around them.”
