STUDENTS at Sawston Village College were paid an informative visit by staff from Addenbrooke's Hospital last week.

Scientists from the Cambridge hospital ran 10 workshops for students, teaching them about a whole range of aspects of medical science, ranging from biochemistry to microbiology.

The workshops included a demonstration of how to test for instances of drug or alcohol abuse in blood, and how to detect viruses by analysing samples.

The purpose of the day, which was enjoyed by any pupils who happened to have a scheduled science lesson, was to provide an insight into the variety of jobs available within the health service.
