SAFFRON Walden Town Library Society is holding a seminar on the archaeology of the Saffron Walden area.
The seminar will introduce people to the library’s substantial collection of archaeological and antiquarian publications which date back to the 17th century. These include the detailed and illustrated accounts of the 19th century excavations undertaken by Richard Cornwallis Neville (later Lord Braybrooke of Audley End) who was an early pioneer of modern archaeology.
Martyn Everett, chairman of the Town Library Society, said: “The library has a remarkable collection of archaeological publications, including an illustrated 18th century description of Stonehenge and recent reports of many of the major archaeological excavations in East Anglia including Sutton Hoo.
“Because the seminar is a very “hands-on” exercise, the number of places is limited, and I would advise anyone who wants to attend to reserve a place by contacting the Enquiry Desk at the Library (Saffron Walden 523178). If the seminar is over-subscribed, we will repeat it later in the year.”
The seminar, which will be held in Town Library on Sunday April 7, starts at 2pm.
