Police are urging motorists to only use roads for essential journeys over the next 24 hours due to expected high winds and heavy rain.

The winds, which are expected to peak at around midnight, could result in falling trees or power lines and there is likely to be standing water on many roads.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: “We would urge anyone who must use the roads to drive to the conditions and at an appropriate speed.

“In the event of power cuts we would ask people to be aware of elderly or vulnerable relatives and neighbours who may need help and support.”
