SHOTGUNS and ammunition were among the items stolen during a �25,000 raid on a house near Debden, police have revealed.

Burglars broke into the Purton End property between 8.45am and 4pm last Wednesday by forcing open a rear door. Others items which were stolen included jewellery and car keys.

DI Paul Lawson from Braintree CID said: "I would urge all licensed firearms holders to ensure that their security arrangements are appropriate."

The incident follows a raid on a property in Butts Green, Clavering, in November when four shotguns, two boxes of ammunition and two cartridge belts were stolen.
