YOUNG actors wowed audiences when the St Mary's School Drama Club performed Around the World in 79 Days in Saffron Walden at the weekend.

The 40 children, aged between seven and 11-years-old, helped raise £450 for school funds at the two performances on Friday and Saturday night.

Drama Club organiser Matthew Chancellor said: "The children had a fantastic time and received a warm reception from the parents, family and friends who came to see them, making it a terrific event.

"This was the third play staged by the club and all the pupils had a wonderful time rehearsing and performing the play.

"We are now already looking forward to next year's production."

The play told the story of Dorothea Fogg, played by Katie Crawshaw, who is determined to travel around the world faster than her husband

Phileas, played by Edward Chancellor.

Her adventures see her travelling through France, China, Australia, Hawaii and the Wild West as she makes her way back to London to win the bet.
