A 23-year-old man became trapped in one of the concrete bowls that make up the One Minet Skatepark at the rear of the Lord Butler Leisure Centre on Peaslands Road.

Fire crews from Saffron Walden were called to the scene just before noon on Sunday.

"The bowl was approximately 12ft deep. Firefighters used two triple extension ladders, rescue lines and a spinal board to bring the man to safety."

The man was rescued by 12:20 and placed in the care of the ambulance service.
