Sound engineer who has worked with Robbie Williams leads Saffron Walden music workshop
A professional sound engineer, who has worked with the likes of Robbie Williams, The Smiths and Marianne Faithfull, was the guest tutor at a music recording workshop in Saffron Walden last week.
Kenny Jones, who runs his own recording studio in north London, gave students an insight into the music industry with a two day course at Fairycroft House in Audley Road on Friday Aug 14 and Sunday Aug 16.
12 students enjoyed a theory session on Friday, before putting their knowledge into practice in a recording session with local band Angel Underground on Sunday.
The free workshop was the first taster music course to be run at Fairycroft House, the site of the town’s old youth centre, and the venue is hoping to set up more for people interested in the arts.
Professional musician and director of the Fairycroft House Community Interest Company, Tim Atkinson, said: “The workshop was a great success and this is the first of many things we want to do.
“We are looking to start regular structured music and theatre courses for the local community in the near future.”
Mr Jones said: “I’ve enjoyed it and I hope the students have got something out of it. I’ve stressed to them that it isn’t all about technical knowledge but being a people person and reassuring the artist about the sound, which I don’t think is covered in college courses.
“I would like to pass on my knowledge as I get older and these courses are a great way to do that.”
Danny Freeman, 25, who attended the workshop, said: “It was really good, and really informative. To listen to someone like Kenny, who has worked with some great people, was so interesting.”
