TWENTY members of staff at a Saffron Walden print factory had to be evacuated this afternoon (Thursday) after print equipment overheated.
Two fire crews from Saffron Walden were called to Printpack Europe in Radwinter Road, at about 3.40pm.
Staff at the factory raised the alarm when the solvent recovery system malfunctioned, causing it to overheat and give off smoke.
Firefighters evacuated the staff on site before using two ground monitors and a spray plate to cool the unit to a safe temperature.
Shortly before 5.10pm, fire crews reported that the temperature levels within the system had fallen to a safe level.
The factory has been left in the care of site engineers.
