STANSTED airport may have some unlikely competition as a London transport hub, from Birmingham airport.
Birmingham International chiefs say that because support for expansion at Stansted and Heathrow has waned their airport could fast become the choice for London-bound passengers.
Virgin trains want to introduce a high-speed train service from Brum, dropping travel times to the capital to 50minutes – approximately the same as from Stansted.
However, best not get too excited yet, expansion and modernisation of Birmingham Airport, and the introduction of a new rail system, is not likely to take place before 2026.
