A wartime tea dance and sing-song will all be part of festivities taking place at Mountfitchet House care home in Stansted as residents join in the nationwide celebration of Vera Lynn’s 100th birthday.

Know as “the Forces’ sweetheart” the wartime singer will be turning 100 on Monday, March 20 and Mountfitchet House residents will be taking part in the national celebrations with a special sing-song on Thursday, March 16.

The care home on Cotsfield is inviting family and friends to join residents and carers in a rendition of We’ll Meet Again, with lyrics available and tasty treats to hand.

Allison Squires, home manager at Mountfitchet House, said: “We are all looking forward to taking a walk down memory lane and having a good sing-along to celebrate Vera Lynn’s milestone birthday. Singing can be a powerful reminiscence activity, and Vera Lynn has written a number of iconic songs that many residents are likely to have grown up listening to.”
