Know as “the Forces’ sweetheart” the wartime singer will be turning 100 on Monday, March 20 and Mountfitchet House residents will be taking part in the national celebrations with a special sing-song on Thursday, March 16.

The care home on Cotsfield is inviting family and friends to join residents and carers in a rendition of We’ll Meet Again, with lyrics available and tasty treats to hand.

Allison Squires, home manager at Mountfitchet House, said: “We are all looking forward to taking a walk down memory lane and having a good sing-along to celebrate Vera Lynn’s milestone birthday. Singing can be a powerful reminiscence activity, and Vera Lynn has written a number of iconic songs that many residents are likely to have grown up listening to.”
