FREDDIE the resident Labrador at Mountfitchet Castle has adopted an orphaned rare breed chick called Harold.
The pair have bonded and become the best of mates, although being a parent has made poor old Freddie so dog tired.
Harold could join the rest of the animals that already live at the historic castle where they are hand fed by visitors.
It’s not the first time Freddie has come to the rescue of a chick. Last year the Golden Labrador adopted Dennis, who was abandoned next to the brook near the popular tourist attraction in Stansted after his mother was killed by a fox.
