Weaponry and armour stolen from Mountfitchet Castle last month has been returned to the Uttlesford tourist attraction.

The owners have thanked the community and Essex Police following the recovery of the items, which were reported stolen from the castle’s armoury on the night of March 15.

A spokesman from the Stansted Mountfitchet attraction said: “A big thank you to all the local community for their help and support.”

The medieval armour and weaponry will be on display for the Easter holidays.

Last month a 32-year-old man from the Takeley area was arrested in connection with thefts of weapons and armour at two locations in Essex.

He was later released on bail pending further enquiries and is due to report back to police on Saturday, April 19.

The man’s arrest followed investigations into the theft of items from the Maldon Combined Services Museum on Thursday, March 13 and a burglary at Mountfitchet Castle.
