STOP Stansted Expansion (SSE) is organising a holiday cycle ride and barbecue for children and their families and friends on Thursday August 19.

The Flitch Way Cycle Ride offers a great way of helping children to appreciate some of the north west Essex countryside in safety as the route runs along the former railway line that used to carry trains between Dunmow and Stortford.

The cycle track also forms the northern boundary of Hatfield Forest, running directly through countryside with lovely wooded areas, rich wildlife and views over open farmland.

The fact that there’s no road traffic makes the ride ideal for those looking for a safe and enjoyable morning’s cycling. Entry to the ride, which starts and ends at The Station House, Takeley, is free but participants must bring their own bikes.

Those taking part can opt for a nine mile or 4.5 mile ride, departing anytime between 11am and noon, before returning for a suitably sustaining lunchtime BBQ of burgers and hot dogs, with cakes and squash also on sale. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.

The Station House is just off the Four Ashes crossroads, Takeley. Car parking is available at the sports ground over the bridge heading south. No advance booking is needed but more information is available from SSE on 01279 870558.
