BUSINESS owners and individuals likely to be affected by the summer's public smoking ban attended Uttlesford District Council's Clear The Air conference last week.

The well-attended event was opened by Saffron Walden MP Sir Alan Haselhurst, who said: "The conference is thought-provoking on an important change in the way we live - and part of a bigger picture.

"We're concerned about pollution of the air in many ways. The ban is a significant and symbolic change for all.

"It's a very good timely move to make on the part of the district council to give people from the local community a chance to understand what the new law is going to say, to prepare for it and to think about some of the situations that will arise."

The conference included workshops and information on products related to the ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces.

If you would like to find out more about the ban and its implications, call Lisa Lipscombe at the council on 01799 510624.
