A student from Hempstead has been awarded a £10,000 scholarship by BAFTA to help him with his music work.
Angus Nicholson is one of just 15 people in the UK to receive funding from the prestigious body – an opportunity which will also see him gain free access to BAFTA events and one-to-one mentoring from members, award-winners and nominees.
Angus studied music at King’s College London and graduated with first class honours in 2015.
Now he is working towards achieving a Master of Composition qualification in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music, and BAFTA have awarded him £10,250 towards it.
He said: “Being awarded a BAFTA scholarship feels incredible; I now know I will be able to focus all my energy on my course without worrying about funding and the costs of living in London, and it’s also a huge privilege to receive an award from such a prestigious organisation.

“We are thrilled to be providing this international community of students with not only the financial means necessary to launch their careers, but the chance to build lasting relationships with leading industry figures, whose contribution to supporting the next generation is invaluable.”
Indeed, as well as the UK Angus will join scholars selected from the likes of China, New York and Los Angeles.
The musician is no stranger to success though, having been the musical director of his university’s prestigious a-capella group All the King’s Men.
He also wrote his first vocal arrangement for them in 2014.
This went on to win awards at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella and at the esteemed Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards just a year later.
Aside from winning awards, Angus lives in London, freelances in composing, arranging and performing, and also teaches music.
