STUDENTS at Linton Village College (LVC) marked Armistice Day by observing a two-minute silence in remembrance of the victims of two world wars and more recent conflicts.

Classes came to a halt, building work was temporarily suspended and the entire school fell silent at 11.11am as Matthew Organ, 12, braved strong wind and rain to climb onto the school roof and play the Last Post on his trumpet.

College spokesman Tony Kelly said: “This was a very moving tribute in which the whole school community took part. The wind and rain added to the atmosphere and seemed to conjure up the horror of the battlefields.

“Many of the students were wearing poppies and they stood in silent respect for the generations before them who had made the ultimate sacrifice on their behalf.”
