YOUNG skiers hit the slopes to take on the might of a slalom race during a school trip to Italy.

Fifty four students and five staff from Newport Free Grammar School visited the ski resort of Prato Nevoso where they enjoyed mixed weather – from heavy fog to glorious sunshine.

Ski Italy 2013 co-ordinator, Lee Gamble, who is also head of the PE department, said: “I was really impressed by the progress all students made ending the week with a slalom race in their ski groups and all abilities covering red and black runs.

“The evening entertainment kept the students and staff busy with a Mexican dress ice skating/tubing night, checked shirt night, quiz evening, pizza night and night skiing. The hat of shame was awarded every evening for the silly incidents of the day.”

The ski trip to Prato Nevoso 2014 is currently full but there is a waiting list for students looking to ski next February.
