Year 9 students from Uttlesford were challenged to a once-in-a-life time experience during an adventure week in the Lake District.
The trip for the 11 pupils, from Saffron Walden County High School and Helena Romanes School, in Great Dunmow, was the pinnacle of the Essex Boys and Girls Clubs Respect Project.
Activities included a night walk to the top of Mell Fell, a day of mountain skills at Castle Crag and a two-day expedition.
The youngsters were also introduced to a healthy diet, developed their culinary skills and had a social etiquette experience with tea in Keswick.
The week of activties was the culmination of the three-month project, which included a weekly life skills course on team building, how to deal with peer pressure, anger, conflict, communication, and understanding drug and alcohol issues.
Their achievements were recognised at a presentation evening held at Uttlesford District Council offices, Saffron Walden, on Thursday. Awards and certificate presentations were made by The High Sheriff of Essex, Julia Abel Smith.
