Adventurous teenagers in Uttlesford are being encouraged to sign up for a new youth programme which gives youngsters the chance to learn survival skills.
NCS Extreme is a more challenging version of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme which and will launch in the district this summer.
Run by Essex County Council’s Youth Service, the programme gives 16 and 17-year-olds from the district’s secondary schools the opportunity to learn essential survival skills for work, life and the great outdoors.
Councillor Ray Gooding, Essex County Council’s cabinet member for education, said: “The National Citizen Service is an excellent programme that encourages young people to make a positive contribution to their communities and teaches them crucial life skills.
“This ‘extreme’ new version of the scheme takes things a step further and also allows participants to pick up some Bear Grylls-style survival skills and handy business tips along the way.”
Places are priced at £50, and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
