CASTLE Street Residents’ Association, with the support of the Essex Record Office, is holding a local history exhibition in Saffron Walden Town Hall on Saturday (June 11) between 10am and 4pm.

On display will be drawings of all the properties in Castle Street, and also parts of Museum Street, showing what they were like around 1600 AD and again around 1900 AD.

Copies of these will be available to order on the day. Also on display will be old maps and vintage photographs and examples of house deeds.

There will be people on hand to advise on how to go about researching the history of your house or your family.

Chairman of the residents’ association Peter Riding said: “We are very excited about the new drawings produced by the history group and think that they will appeal to everyone interested in the history of our town as well, of course, as those who have lived or currently live in Castle Street.”
